In the spring of 1847, James and Frances Coleman and their infant daughter, Anna, left Iowa for good as they ventured westward on the Oregon Trail in search of opportunity. Guided by grit, determination, and an unwavering sense of purpose, the Coleman family weathered the journey and made it to the western edge of the Oregon territory. The Coleman family was one of the first to settle at the St. Paul Mission and it wasn’t long before these pioneers put the plow to earth and began building their legacy. Now the seventh generation of Colemans has their boots firmly planted in the same Willamette Valley soils that have been family farmed for more than a century.

Our Crops
At Coleman, we manage more than 7,500 acres of land in the Willamette Valley cultivating some of the highest-quality crops you’ll find anywhere. We specialize in hops, hazelnuts, seed crops, and a variety of vegetables, selling directly to brokers and commercial partners.
We are one of the most diverse hop growers in Oregon,
producing over 4 million pounds, from 16 distinct varieties, every year.
Oregon produces over 95% of U.S.-grown Hazelnuts and we account for a large amount of our country’s total production. Starting in 1969, our family has now harvested more than one million pounds of nuts.
Rounding out our primary plantings are seed crops and vegetables. We vary the acreage and the types of vegetables planted each year to increase the biodiversity and overall health of the soil.
